Environment Centre NT and Beyond Gas Network have teamed up to support a group of Territorians to bring an urgent message down south: The Territory is under threat from gas expansion like never before.
For over a decade, Territorians have led the fight against this destructive industry, but now Country, water, and our climate are at greater risk than ever.
Join us for a powerful event featuring NT Traditional Owners and Territorians who will share what these dangerous gas projects mean for their communities—and how you can stand in solidarity here in Victoria.
🔥 Why it matters: Much of the NT is predicted to be unliveable before the end of the century due to climate impacts, and the Federal Government is considering a $1.9 billion gas hub in Darwin, while failing to stop fracking in the Beetaloo Basin. Victorians banned fracking because we know the dangers—now it's time to support communities in the NT who are fighting to do the same.
The event will begin with a Welcome to Country and Smoking Ceremony from a Wurundjeri Elder on the banks of the Birrarung (Yarra River) before the panel discussion begins inside Koorie Heritage Trust.
Speakers include:
Ray Dimakarri Dixon, Mudburra elder and musician
Miliwanga Wurrben, Rembarrnga healer
Joni Wilson, Yanyuwa and Garawa Traditional Owner
Asman Rory, Gudanji Garawa advocate
Mililma May, Danggalaba Kulumbirigin Tiwi community organizer
Dr. Louise Woodward, NT paediatrician
Hosted by Kirsty Howey, Executive Director of Environment Centre NT, with stalls from local climate groups like Climate Action Merribek, Climate Action Maribrynong and Darebin CAN.
RSVP and share to stand with Territorians and protect our future from dangerous climate impacts and gas expansion.
